WHETHER YOU ARE A FIRST TIME HOME-BUYER OR EXPERIENCED IN RELOCATION, THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD NOT FORGET TO INCLUDE ON YOUR CHECKLIST.
Change the locks
After you get the keys to your new home it is important to change the exterior locks. You never know who the previous owners gave out keys to and this will help give you peace of mind as you are settling in. You can call a locksmith or even call your home warranty provider (we know, like, and trust Landmark Home Warranty) to help get the locks changed for a nominal service charge.
Switch utilities into your name
This can sometimes seem like a no-brainer, but you don’t always think of the utilities that require changing. Trail 27 has a full and in-depth list of utility and city services for the Treasure Valley that we are happy to provide any new homeowner. The top utilities to remember to change are water/sewer, power, and gas.
Get the house tidied up
In most cases, houses are left extremely clean by the previous owner. On the chance the house is not up to your standards we have recommendations for cleaning services or you can do it yourself. Either way, if you are stocking up the home with cleaning essentials don’t forget buckets, a broom, a mop, a vacuum, and cleaners for various surfaces.
Get the mechanical equipment serviced
Having heating and cooling systems cleaned and serviced regularly is important. As a new owner, you may not know the history of services so it is nice to start off with a clean slate. Your agent can provide you with a list of recommended contractors or service providers.
Make your house a home
Moving into a new house and trying to find a place for all of your belongings or even starting from scratch can be hard. Sometimes it helps to have a professional eye come in to get a feel for your style and help you maximize your space. We have an amazing interior designer in-house that we love to recommend to any clients interested in the service.
